Seattle police union clashes with city leaders over drug arrest policy

SEATTLE — Seattle’s police union and city officials are at odds over the municipality’s approach to public drug use arrests, with the union president warning of dire consequences while the newly sworn-in Mayor Katie Wilson and City Attorney Erika Evans insist no policy changes have occurred.

The Seattle Police Officers’ Guild president posted online over the weekend claiming the city had decided not to arrest people for using drugs in public, warning the approach would bring “death and societal decay”
