Seattle mural memorializing Japanese American history vandalized for second time this year

A mural commemorating Japanese American history in Seattle was vandalized over the weekend, marking the second attack on the artwork this year.

SEATTLE — A mural commemorating Japanese American history in the heart of Seattle’s Chinatown-International District was vandalized with silver paint over the weekend, marking the second attack on the artwork this year.

The mural, located in Nihonmachi Alley near Sixth Avenue South and South Jackson Street, memorializes the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. 

Community members discovered graffiti splashed across multiple sections of the wall over the weekend. The artwork is part of a public art exhibit created in 2019
