Mayor Katie Wilson canceled an encampment sweep in Ballard Wednesday, pledging to find alternatives to displacing homeless people.

SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson canceled a scheduled encampment sweep Wednesday, signaling a potential shift in how the city will address homelessness.

Wilson canceled the sweep before visiting the site at Northwest 41st Street and Burke-Gilman Trail, home to about 10 to 15 people notified to leave by Monday. The removal would have been the first scheduled sweep of her administration.
