SEATTLE — Seattle City Council has passed an emergency ordinance that bans grocery and pharmacy chains from using legal clauses that block competitors from taking over their former store sites. It’s a move aimed at keeping neighborhoods from losing access to food and medication.
In Lake City, residents are still adjusting to the closure of a Fred Meyer. The store shut down in mid-October and had been a neighborhood anchor for years.
