Seahawks 50 Seasons: Mike Holmgren helps set new standard for franchise in 2000s

Mike Holmgren turned the Seahawks into playoff contenders and led the team to its first Super Bowl appearance.

SEATTLE — Mike Holmgren turned the Green Bay Packers into Super Bowl champs again. In 1999, the Seahawks signed coach Holmgren to help do the same in Seattle – with an eight-year deal worth $32 million.

Holmgren put the Seahawks on the football map once again.

“As a coach you cannot ask for any more than I’ve been given here. So now it’s up to us. We roll up our sleeves as soon as possible,” Holmgren said when he was introduced as the new Seahawks coach.
