Rising fuel costs threaten services for elderly, disabled in western Washington

Rising gas prices are straining western Washington nonprofits, threatening meal deliveries and rides to medical appointments.

EVERETT, Wash. — Western Washington nonprofits are bracing for unbudgeted fuel cost increases due to the conflict in Iran that could impact the vulnerable people they serve, as gas prices in the state remain among the highest in the nation.

At Homage Senior Services in Everett, workers bag food for the Meals on Wheels program every week, serving more than 800 disabled and elderly people. Up to 90 more people seek help each month.
