Residents in 20 Mercer Island homes asked to temporarily evacuate due to unstable soil

If the leak gets worse, there is a potential for flooding or a landslide, according to the city of Mercer Island.

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — Residents in approximately 20 homes on Mercer Island have been asked to temporarily evacuate after a leaking underground water pipe created unstable soil conditions. 

If soil conditions worsen, or the water line breaks, that could lead to potential flooding or a landslide, according to the City of Mercer Island.

The homes are all near 95th Court Southeast. The Mercer Island Police Department posted on their Facebook page about the evacuations at around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
