Raised striping on Seattle trail poses dangers, cyclists allege

Cyclists blame poor conditions on the Burke-Gilman Trail for crashes and injuries.

SEATTLE — Cyclists riding the Burke-Gilman Trail through Ballard and Fremont say hazardous conditions at several intersections are causing crashes, injuries and, in some cases, hospital visits.

Raised striping installed by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) in April has made the trail increasingly dangerous, according to local riders. They say uneven layers of paint and pavement have turned key intersections into obstacle courses.
