Heavy rain raises debris flow concerns near Lake Cushman as the Bear Gulch fire burns.
LAKE CUSHMAN, Wash. — Heavy rain brought on by an unusually strong weather system for August is raising concerns about debris flows near Lake Cushman where the Bear Gulch wildfire has burned.
About 1 inch of rain is forecast to fall over a 24-hour period and creates a greater chance for debris flows from steep terrain. On Friday, firefighters will be pulled from areas at risk of debris flows and positioned where they can operate at a reduced risk, according to fire officials.
