Protests set to sweep Seattle amid threat of National Guard deployment

SEATTLE — Gov. Bob Ferguson said he has canceled his weekend plans to remain in Seattle as protests are expected to sweep across Washington state Saturday in opposition to President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and a planned military parade in Washington, D.C.

Ferguson issued a warning Thursday against any federal attempt to deploy National Guard troops in cities like Seattle or Spokane, calling such a move “unconstitutional.”

“Washington will be prepared if Trump attempts a similar unconstitutional stunt in Washington state,” Ferguson said.
