A new federal proposal from the General Services Administration is drawing concern from Pierce County food bank leaders who say it may disrupt funding and services.
PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A Pierce County nonprofit that supports dozens of local food pantries is warning a proposed federal policy change could threaten millions in funding and put struggling families at risk.
Michelle Douglas, CEO of the Emergency Food Network (EFN), said demand for food assistance in Pierce County has reached record levels. The organization distributed supplies through more than 75 partner pantries last year, serving 3.7 million visits, up from 3.1 million the year before.
