Pierce County Council approves new public safety sales tax

The revenue from the new 0.1% sales tax will go toward funding public safety and justice system resources in Pierce County.

TACOMA, Wash — Leaders in Pierce County on Tuesday night approved a sales tax increase that some public safety officials say is necessary to prevent significant cuts to public safety and the justice system.

The Pierce County Council approved the tax in a 5-2 vote.
