A swarm of offshore earthquakes near the Pacific Northwest poses no threat to land, says Harold Tobin of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
SEATTLE — A swarm of offshore earthquakes that has been active since midnight poses no danger to people on land in the Pacific Northwest, according to a leading earthquake expert.
Harold Tobin, director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network and professor in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington, said the activity is occurring far offshore and is not connected to the Cascadia subduction zone, which is the source of the region’s largest earthquake risk.
