No water at Paradise until further notice

Mount Rainier’s Paradise area faces water shutdown after a storm disrupted the water treatment system.

ASHFORD, Wash. — If you’re heading to Paradise at Mount Rainier, bring extra water and be prepared to use portable toilets.

A thunderstorm on Sept. 6 caused slides and flooding that clogged filters in the water treatment system.

“That debris is still coming down and it’s clogging our filters,” park spokesperson Patti Wold said.

Running water at the visitor center and Paradise Inn has been shut off since the weekend, leaving hotel guests without showers or baths. Food options are also limited at the popular site, located
