New Seattle superintendent outlines priorities, challenges as he begins

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Ben Shuldiner vowed to enhance school safety and transparency after a recent shooting left two students dead.

SEATTLE — Seattle Public Schools’ new superintendent Ben Shuldiner outlined the district’s most pressing challenges Monday, pledging heightened safety measures and greater transparency after two teenagers were shot and killed near Rainier Beach High School on Friday.

Speaking at a news conference, Shuldiner outlined his vision to make Seattle Public Schools “the single best school district in America” while acknowledging the safety and budget challenges the district and schools face.
