Mother charged with murder in violent killing of 4-year-old son

Ariel Garcia had “at least” 41 sharp-force injuries on his body, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

EVERETT, Wash. — A mother accused of stabbing and killing her 4-year-old son in Everett pleaded not guilty Monday.

Janet Garcia, 27, stabbed her son, Ariel, dozens of times before leaving his body near Joint Base Lewis-McChord on March 27, charging documents in the case said. Garcia was charged April 15 with first-degree murder.

Responding officers noted in their report they initially identified 16 “sharp force wounds” on his body but there could be as many as 41. A medical examiner determined the boy’s death
