Mercer Island candidate denies role in $7 million tree-cutting lawsuit

Julie Hsieh denied involvement in a lawsuit after 140 trees were illegally cut down on public land.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A Mercer Island City Council candidate is pushing back after she was named in a $7 million lawsuit accusing several homeowners of illegally cutting down trees on protected public land in Issaquah.

Julie Hsieh is among those named in the King County lawsuit, which alleged more than 140 trees were illegally removed from Grand Ridge Park to improve private views of West Tiger Mountain. 

One of the properties included in the lawsuit belongs to Hsieh’s parents, who purchased the home in March. Hsieh said
