Mercer Island bans sale, use of fireworks

The city council said the unanimous vote considered safety risks to residents, strain on emergency services, and noise pollution impacts.

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — The sale and use of fireworks is now permanently banned on Mercer Island following the city council’s unanimous vote on Wednesday.

The ban prohibits the sale and discharge of consumer fireworks, beginning in 2025. It was adopted following recommendations from Mercer Island’s city manager, fire chief and police chief.
