Mayor Bruce Harrell signs 2026 Seattle budget into law

The budget includes additional investments into affordable housing and homelessness response. It was passed unanimously by Seattle City Council.

SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell has signed the city’s 2026 budget into law, approving an $8.9 billion spend plan that he and city leaders said makes record investments in affordable housing, public safety and expands the city’s rainy day fund to protect against potential federal funding cuts.

The 2026 budget preserves most of the priorities from Harrell’s early proposal, one that Mayor-elect Katie Wilson will have to manage. The budget includes $349.5 million for affordable housing,  $228.5 million for homelessness response and other investments in food
