Man charged in 1980 Everett murder after new DNA evidence surfaces

Police say new DNA evidence led to charges nearly 46 years after Susan Vesey was killed in her Everett home.

EVERETT, Wash. — A man already in custody in Snohomish County for the 1984 killing of another Everett woman has now been charged in the 1980 death of Susan Vesey, according to the Everett Police Department.

Police said Mitchell Gaff, 68, was charged Friday in Snohomish County Superior Court with aggravated murder and first-degree murder in Vesey’s death.

Vesey was found killed inside her home on Casino Road on July 12, 1980, the morning after her 21st birthday, police said.
