Malnourishment, possible ship strike led to death of gray whales in Ocean Shores

Two gray whales found on Ocean Shores beach were malnourished, with one possibly struck by a ship, according to biologists.

OCEAN SHORES, Wash. — Two gray whales that washed ashore in Ocean Shores earlier this week were found to be malnourished, with one showing signs of a possible ship strike, according to biologists.

Examinations were conducted April 4 by Cascadia Research, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and SR³ – Sealife Response, Rehabilitation & Research, a day after the whales were discovered on the beach.
