Lynnwood votes to terminate Flock Safety camera contract after community backlash

A 25-camera surveillance network that launched last June has been scrapped following months of community pressure over surveillance concerns.

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — The Lynnwood City Council voted to terminate its contract with Flock Safety, ending a two-year pilot program that placed 25 license plate-reading cameras across the city. The decision followed sustained public opposition.

The program launched in June and quickly generated results. Officers received an average of 66 stolen vehicle alerts each month, recovered stolen cars, made arrests related to assault, theft and drug offenses, and used the system to locate a missing elderly man, according to the city.
