Lawsuit against King County claims sexual abuse inside juvenile detention centers

Three dozen plaintiffs say they were part of a decades long pattern of abuse within the youth justice system.

SEATTLE — Three dozen former juvenile inmates and detainees are suing King County over alleged sexual abuse spanning more than 40 years. 

The 50-page lawsuit outlines individual claims made by each of the 36 plaintiffs, all of whom are now adults.

The accusations include rape, molestation, forced sexual activity, grooming and threats of retaliation between 1968-2006.

The county is the only defendant listed, but the lawsuit accuses guards, teachers, nurses, probation officers and adult inmates of perpetrating the abuse.
