The city of Lakewood saw a historic drop in crime in 2025, marking its first year in at least two decades without a single homicide.
LAKEWOOD, Wash. — For the first time in at least two decades, Lakewood ended 2025 without a single homicide — a milestone city officials and police call historic.
“It’s a great thing for the community,” said Lakewood Police Chief Patrick Smith. “Zero homicides in a year in any city is a great accomplishment.”
The department, now in its 23rd year, last investigated a homicide in December 2024. At its worst, Lakewood saw seven homicides in both 2019 and 2021.
