An attorney representing the victim’s family said the verdict represents accountability for what he described as systemic failures.
SEATTLE — A King County jury has awarded more than $30 million to the family of Antonio Mays Jr., a 16-year-old who was shot and killed during the 2020 Capitol Hill Organized Protest, finding the City of Seattle negligent in its response to the shooting.
Mays was shot near a police precinct inside the protest zone. According to the family’s attorneys, there was a significant delay in medical aid because emergency crews did not enter the area at the time.
