Judge orders mental evaluation of man accused of stealing WSP patrol vehicle on I-5

The man is facing charges of second-degree robbery and eluding a pursuing police vehicle in the Christmas Day incident.

SEATTLE — A judge ordered that a man accused of stealing a state trooper’s patrol vehicle would undergo mental evaluation in a hearing on Monday. 

Alexander Eugene Smith, 24, appeared in court on Monday. Originally, he was scheduled to be arraigned, but that hearing was delayed until Jan. 26, so he could be evaluated.
