Joint Base Lewis-McChord currently cannot meet demand for childcare

Families are facing a lack of access to on-base childcare at JBLM. Nearly 200 families are on a waitlist for childcare and after school programs for school age kids.

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — Around 180 families are stuck on a waiting list for childcare for school age children at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), as demand for services outpaces availability, forcing some parents to make difficult choices.

“I feel like JBLM command failed our family,” said Alina Mulder, a working mother whose husband is currently stationed overseas for a year.
