Jam-packed bins line city streets as strike delays trash pickup in King, Snohomish counties

Teamsters are picketing in Lacey as part of a multi-state strike against the country’s largest sanitation company.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Some communities in King and Snohomish counties are dealing trash and recycling backups as a multi-state strike against the country’s second-largest sanitation company enters its second day in western Washington.

On Thursday morning, Republic Services suspended services “due to an out-of-market labor disruption that has caused a work stoppage at Republic Services’ operations in King County and Snohomish County.”

The company said it will collect double garbage, recycling and compost materials on the next scheduled service day at no extra cost to the customer.
