It's a girl: Woodland Park Zoo welcomes new baby gorilla not bonding with mother

Here’s your daily dose of cuteness: Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo welcomed a new female western lowland gorilla on Jan. 29.

It is the second baby for 24-year-old mother Nadiri and the first between her and dad, 21-year-old Kwame.

The baby gorilla is currently receiving around-the-clock care from zoo staff, including feeding infant formula and keeping her warm, as Nadiri did not immediately bond with the baby.

The zoo staff intervened an hour after birth after Nadiri did not pick up her baby.

“We will continue to provide hands-on care while keeping the baby in close proximity to Nadiri 24/7 and attempting to reintroduce her to mom,” said Martin Ramirez, mammal
