LYNDEN, Wash. — When a Coast Guard helicopter lifted Maria Horn from her attic in Sumas during historic flooding last week, it seemed like her ordeal was over. The 88-year-old had survived floodwaters that rose up to her neck, destroying her home. She was whisked to safety by air, dangling in a basket beneath a helicopter, her rescue captured on video that would soon circulate nationally.
