‘I hated my own eyes that day’: Driver hurt in fatal Renton crash describes her experience

RENTON, Wash. — Melissa Cortez was driving a white Toyota Avalon and was sitting at a red light in Renton when she was part of a major collision that took the lives of four people, including a mother and three children. 

The crash involving four vehicles happened around 12:45 p.m. in the 19200 block of 140th Avenue Southeast on March 19, according to fire officials. The King County Sheriff’s Office identified 38-year-old Andrea Hudson, a 13-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old boy as the victims killed in the crash.
