I-5 southbound traffic in Tacoma snarled early Tuesday morning after tanker truck collision

The backup was as long as 4 miles.

TACOMA, Wash. — A collision involving a tanker truck caused a miles-long backup on southbound Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome early Tuesday morning.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) first reported the collision at 6:28 a.m. Tuesday. After just one lane was blocked, it eventually became the three right lanes all being blocked, with the three on the left open.

Just before 9 a.m., the roadway was fully reopened. Drivers should still expect delays due to the miles-long backup that had built up.
