Highway 2 partially reopens from the east; west side skiers see long detour

A challenging detour stretches Seattle’s drive to Stevens Pass to nearly four hours from the west side as storm damage keeps most of Highway 2 closed.

SKYKOMISH, Wash. — When Stevens Pass finally opened for the season on Monday morning, the lifts weren’t the first test of endurance: the road was. 

With Highway 2 still largely cut off on the west side after storm damage, the only way to reach the resort is to approach from the east. That detour turns what is normally a 90-minute trip from Seattle into a journey stretching close to four hours.
