SEATTLE — Rev. Jesse Jackson, the civil rights leader and two-time presidential candidate who spent decades fighting for racial and economic justice, died Tuesday at age 84, leaving behind a legacy that stretched deeply into Seattle’s political and spiritual life.

Jackson’s relationship with Seattle spanned more than 30 years, beginning with one of his most prominent early appearances at the 1990 Goodwill Games, where he took the stage at Seattle Center and urged Soviet and American visitors to embrace peace.
