Oak Harbor is fighting back against seagulls that have fouled storefronts and created health hazards by deploying a hawk to patrol the city.
OAK HARBOR, Wash. — Seagulls are turning Oak Harbor’s storefronts into their own personal porta-potties — and the city has had enough.
The birds have become a nuisance, circling the skies above the city, dropping waste on businesses, nesting on rooftops, diving into dumpsters and fowling the city in every sense of the word. For locals, the problem has become impossible to ignore.
