A detention center garden celebrates its 10th harvest for food bank.
THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — After an arrest for drugs and assault, a Thurston County juvenile court judge sentenced 16-year-old Alyssa Ahl to garden duty.
“I was like, this is going to be so dumb, spending the day in the garden,” said Ahl. “And then I kind of fell in love with the place.”
Ahl, currently on probation, serves as foreman for the county’s Seeds of Change Give Back Garden behind the county’s juvenile detention facility.
