First big wildfire of the season ignites in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Evacuations have been canceled in Grant County after people were forced out of their homes for hours on Tuesday.

Level 3 and Level 2 evacuations were in place for a fire near Soap Lake issued by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO). The evacuations were issued around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and were canceled around 9 p.m.

As of Tuesday night, the fire is around 300 acres and is not under control, according to GCSO.

State Route 28 is closed just east of the junction with State Route 17 and Soap Lake due to the fire, according to the Washington State Department
