Ferry fare hikes, summer surcharge increase approved by state commission

New rates will begin Oct. 1 and increase again in May.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Transportation Commission approved new fare and summer surcharge increases for state ferries.

At its meeting Wednesday, the commission adopted fare hikes to help meet the state Legislature’s $408.8 million revenue target for the 2025–27 biennium. The changes include:

A 3% increase to vehicle and passenger fares on Oct. 1, 2025, and again on May 1, 2026.A 35% summer peak season surcharge for all routes, matching the existing rate for San Juan Island-Anacortes sailings.A pilot program extending the expiration period of multiride passes from 90 to 120 days,
