Ferry crew praised for swift kayak rescue on Puget Sound

A Washington State Ferry crew successfully rescued a distressed kayaker in Puget Sound.

SEATTLE — A kayaker is safe and a Washington State Ferries crew is being praised after a mid-route rescue in Puget Sound Sunday. 

Andrew Palmer was on the Walla Walla ferry serving the Seattle-Bremerton route when he and other passengers spotted someone in distress who was “splashing pretty violently.”

“You’ll have some, you know, whale sightings … a boat in the way … but this is the first time that I’ve ever seen something where the crew actually had to launch a rescue operation,” Palmer said.
