Federal Way, once nicknamed “Flag City USA” will now fly only three flags outside City Hall
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Federal Way City Council voted to limit which flags can fly outside City Hall, ending a years-long practice of raising community and cultural flags such as Pride, Juneteenth and Ukrainian banners.
The resolution, passed Oct. 21 by a 6–1 vote, restricts displays to only the U.S., Washington state and City of Federal Way flags. The move drew significant community backlash at a Nov. 5 meeting, where more than a dozen residents urged the council to reconsider.
