Federal Way and Redmond schools compete in national aluminum can recycling contest

Since the contest launched, 4.4 million aluminum cans have been recycled across the country. Enterprise Elementary and Medina Academy are among schools competing.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Enterprise Elementary in Federal Way and Medina Academy in Redmond are competing for a $500 Washington state prize within the Million Cans Recycling Contest by Recycling Society based on the Eastside.

“I have 54 schools all across the U.S. competing right now,” said Jessica Alexanderson, the executive director of Recycling Society. “Two are in Washington state.”

People can donate the cans directly to Radius Recycling in Woodinville or Tacoma and say which school it’s for. Alternately, both schools
