Farewell Astra | Point Defiance Zoo polar bear moving to the Midwest

Astra’s sister, Laerke, will remain behind at Point Defiance Zoo. Experts say that at this age, polar bears begin to live more solitary lives in the wild.

TACOMA, Wash. — Point Defiance Zoo announced Monday that one of its polar bears, Astra, will be moving to a new zoo in October. 

Astra and her sister, Laerke, arrived at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) in 2023 as 2-year-old cubs.
