Emergency preparedness top of mind as Washington marks 25th anniversary of Nisqually earthquake

February 28th marks 25 years since the Nisqually Earthquake rattled Western Washington.

TACOMA, Wash — Twenty-five years after the Nisqually earthquake rattled western Washington, the powerful 6.8-magnitude quake remains a defining moment for the region, both for those who lived through it and for the emergency systems assessed and enhanced in its wake.

The quake struck just before 11 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2001, causing up to $4 billion in damage.
