HERRON ISLAND, Wash. — An elderly couple drowned Sunday morning after they drove into the water near Herron Island.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) was called just before noon for reports of a sinking vehicle with people inside. Witnesses said the couple drove off the road and plunged into the water. The car ended up 30 feet from shore and about 18 feet deep into the water, according to the PCSO.
