SEATTLE — Eight landlords across Washington have agreed to rescind illegal rent increases and repay tenants after violating the state’s new rent cap law, Attorney General Nick Brown’s office announced Wednesday.
The law, signed May 7 and effective immediately, limits annual rent increases to 10% for residential tenancies — or 7% plus the Consumer Price Index, whichever is higher — and caps increases for mobile homes at 5%.
Under the resolutions filed in Superior Court in Clark, Grays Harbor, King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, about 250 households will receive refunds or
