Disabled veteran claims discrimination at Everett pub

Richard James says he was refused service because of his service animal.

EVERETT, Wash. — Richard James and his dog Mark are virtually inseparable.

They go everywhere together, and Richard makes sure everyone knows Mark is a certified service animal.

“I’ve taken him to Hawaii. I’ve taken him to the Apple Cup,” Richard said. “He can tell when I’m starting to have a panic attack or an anxiety episode. He’s been incredibly helpful.”

Mark suffers from PTSD after a seven-month tour in Iraq in 2006.

It’s a situation he said was made worse when he stopped by Everett’s 7th Street
