Crews contain wildfire near Leavenworth

The wildfire sparked Tuesday evening. U.S. Highway 2 at milepost 98 has reopened in both directions.

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — A wildfire in Tumwater Canyon has been contained and roads have reopened near Leavenworth, according to Chelan County officials.

The fire was contained just before 10 p.m. and the U.S. Forest Service has taken over the incident. 

Chelan County Fire District 3 said the fire is burning in “heavy timber.” At one point, more than 40 firefighters were on scene, along with state Department of Natural Resources crews.

The wildfire first sparked around 7 p.m. Tuesday, forcing the closure of U.S.
