From a North Seattle grocery store to a West Seattle school, communities are collecting donations as nearly 1 million Washingtonians are set lose SNAP benefits.
SEATTLE — A handwritten sign taped to the front of the register at a North Seattle grocery store will read simply: “If you need food, ask.”
It’s a small gesture with big hopes as nearly 1 million Washington residents prepare to lose federal food assistance Saturday because of the ongoing government shutdown. The sign represents a grassroots movement spreading across the state as neighbors rush to help neighbors.
