Firefighters from Lacey and East Olympia swam out to man who was stuck south of Olympia.
THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A fisherman spent around six hours stuck in a marsh south of Olympia last week. He was later rescued to safety by a United States Coast Guard helicopter.
“None of us had ever responded to a rescue in a marsh or a swamp before,” said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Col. Jason Weeks.
Weeks was one of the pilots of the MH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Oregon called to assist first responders from Lacey Fire District 3 and East Olympia Fire District 6.
