TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma City Council is considering a proposal to expand the city’s existing camping ban ordinance, adding new restrictions on homeless encampments near public parks, libraries, schools, and permanent shelters.

The legislation, brought forward by Councilmember John Hines, would build on the 2022 ordinance that currently prohibits encampments within 10 blocks of temporary and emergency shelters and within 200 feet of waterways.
